Here are four methods you can use to train anyone. The first is to use visualization, by talking about the job, use video, let them watch in person etc. Some people are visual learners and others are tactile or hands on learners. Encourage them to ask questions, ask them what likely problems they feel they may encounter.

Begin your training session by asking each person which type of learner they are. This will help you set the agenda for the days training.

The second method is by showing them the mechanics of what is involved with the job. List the steps to each procedure, one by one and have them repeat the steps aloud to you and ask them if there are any questions.

The third is to show them how to react to various situations involved with the job. This is one of the most neglected aspects in training today. Begin this phase of training by preparing a list of the likely situations they will run into such as – mixed parts, hostile customers, inaccurate paperwork etc. Next to the typical situation describe the best solution to these issues, review this document often, and be willing to update it with more and current info.

The fourth is to give them limited duties and if they perform those well then progressively increase the demand. Now that you know how to Train Others, the next and most important value you bring to yourself and to your employer is to be able to explain the value you bring. By being able to train others, so collect some stories about what you’ve done and how it can benefit your employer.
